Parish News...

  • Two open dates for altar flowers remain.  Please call Candy at the office for more details.

  • Altar Guild Annual Meeting is Saturday, 27 March--which is also the day Altar Guild makes the Palm crosses.

  • Narrated Eucharist.  On Sunday, 14 March, the 10:00 a.m. service will be a bit different.  All the usual parts of theEucharist liturgy will be present, but a narrator (Win Boyd) will introduce each section.  He will explain what we are about to do and why.  To facilitate listening, each part will also be projected on a screen as he explains it.  This is the perfect Sunday to bring a friend or anyone who is interested in learning more about the Episcopal liturgy.

  • Pews for sale!  The renovation of the cancel area several years ago left us with some extra church pews.  They've been in storage, and the vestry has decided to put them up for sale, most likely through a silent auction.  The details have not been worked out yet, but if you're interested, phone the church office and we'll send you full information when it's available.

  • Gerry Scholarship Ends.  In 1981 a scholarship for graduates of Burlington High School was established from the estate of Jessica Gerry.  It was intended as a form of outreach from Christ Church to the community.  Unfortunately, the Gerry funds were lost in the 1987 embezzlement.  In recent years, the scholarship has been funded out of the operating budget.  The amount has not kept pace with increases in tuition and and other tuition costs, to the point where no one applied for the scholarship last year.  For these rasons, the vestry removed it from the 2010 operating budget.  If at some future time there are non-operating funds available to support it, it can be restored, but for now the Gerry Scholarship has ended.

  • The Community Action Neighborhood Center needs jars of jelly, regular and sugar free, any flavor; boxed macaroni and cheese; and tunafish.  Thanks for helping to feed the hungry in our midst.

  • Tell the Preacher What to Say!  Each Sunday at 9:25 a.m. there will be a discussion of the Sunday Gospel in the Parish Hall.  Everyone is welcome!  No opinions are turned away!

  • P4C:  Pennies for Children is our on-going fundraiser.  Our goal is $12oK!  Every penny (or other money) you contribute will go to help hungry children and their families in Iowa and in the world.  Please still bring your pennies each week.

    • Current donation total:  $2744.83

    •  Please bring in your pennies!!

  • Save the date:  Vacation Bible School will be Monday, 12 July through Wednesday, 14 July 2010.
